We all know if you help someone out, it comes back in spades.

I thought if every person who knows Photoshop CS3 could post one sneaky tip, I'd be so much further on by the weekend.

I'll start myself...

Pressing the space bar brings up the hand cursor to move a layer around the screen.

Your turn...

If you hold Alt then scroll with your mouse you can zoom in and out :)

I only venture out of Lightroom and into PS occasionally, so I have no tips or tricks, but this could be a fun thread so I'm subscribing!

When using Curves, hold down ALT while dragging your white and black levels and you can see when they start to clip.

(Works in Lightroom as well)

CTRL-J is the fastest way to duplicate a layer.

Go to Window-Workspace and the bottom set of 8 Modes will highlight your breadcrumb menus that apply to that mode. Clicking Video for example will highlight all the breadcrumbs that apply to video editing. Painting and Retouching will highlight most of the most common commands used in photo editing.

Does bridge count? Ctrl click to select or deselect a second, third, or fourth etc. pic. Or pick one photo and five, six, or seven over etc. shift click to select them all. This helps me with all my RAW settings.

When I prepare an image to print I place it on a blank white background 10mm wider and 10mm longer to give a 5mm border all around. If you hold Shift and use the move tool to place on new background it drops the image dead centre.

(PC only) Double-clicking on the gray background of the workspace brings up the "Open" dialog. I haven't used File > Open for years.

Guys, these are really great...thanks.

The list of shortcuts was a real good find, but knowing which little nuggets people find indispensable is very helpful.

Thanks again... please keep them coming. :D

P.S. I'll allow two each ;)

A few that I use regularly.

Ctrl + 0 for fit to screen

Ctrl with + or - to zoom in and out

Tab to hide/show palettes

Shift + Tab to show only tools palette

Here's 101 tips in 5 minutes ;)

Not much to add, except that you can set your own keyboard shortcuts in PSCS2 and up.
Shift+Cmd+Opt+K. Do it!
Remove some you never use, you can also clean up your tool palette that way (options are still there, but you don't cycle through them when pressing "(shift+) tool shortcut")

For instance: I never use the sponge tool, and only the "plain" pen tool (others I need are done by pen tool + modifier key):
