Removing smoke smell

I just bought a bag and camera that smells a bit. I don't care.

I gave up smoking a while ago, but I like to keep a lit cigar strapped to my lenses with a rubberband while shooting to deter people from hassling me.

As for the cigarette strapped on lens trick (used as people deterrent)...it'd take an onion taped onto one to fend me off

After seeing that crap on windows from smoke and blowing out crude from nostrils I'd be a-ok if onion got close to a lens…even though it would kill me. Smells go away but crude stays for good. If any lens could blow crap out it'll still have crap embedded in it. Buyers spend $$ on a lens so why would they care if mold or dirt is in the interior of an expensive lens. Evidence of this will show whether it’s met some challenging times. And also indicate the type of environments it was subjected too. If a buyer is picky it’s their money why shouldn’t a sale be a good one where both parties are satisfied. Some people care and others don't, that's the way it is.

I'm no longer trying anything. Already sold the two things that are being shipped back to me. I'm losing some money in the deal, but I have no need for the equipment anymore. My time ran too thin for photography. My time is almost too thin for my bike, but I enjoy riding it to work in the mornings and to class in the evenings. It gives me time to think and ponder the day.

lol sorry, just tired of all the stupid comments. People obviously have different opinions regarding this issue. It doesn't make them rediculous or "self-centered." It just makes them different. I'm sure everyone here has things that annoy them. No one is hyper-tolerant to everything people do or say.

I can understand why the buyers didn't want to try the remedy first. Like other people have said before, what about smoke on the inside of the lens? How could you get rid of that? What would happen if they got rid of the smoke on the outside and did not ask for refund but a month later the smoke that was inside of the lens messed up the lens somehow? Would you have given them refund then after a month of usage? I don't think you would because there is no way to prove that it wasn't their mistake. Thus, they asked for refund to prevent that from happening.

I think you did the right thing giving them refund. I'm sure you will always mention the smoke when you try to sell your equipment from now on. I've never asked the sellers whether or not the equipment comes from a smoke-free environment but I'll remember to ask that question before buying anything. This is a good lesson to learn from.
