What do you mean stay lit, the image playback stays on? Check page 144-145 on your manual. Image playback must be on hold.

No, not image playback. What I am talking about is the info screen. It shows ISO, F stop, etc. That used to stay on for a short time and then go dark. Now it stays on the entire time the camera is turned on.

Push the info button until it turns off. The info button activates two screen displays. If the display remains on, you`ll need to push the button two times.

"Review time" is the other setting.... You can make it shorter or longer or turn it off completely.

I turn it off, then use a custom function to assign the Set button to replay during shooting. That way I can use either thumb to review an image any time I wish, but am not distracted by auto reviewing every single shot. This also saves a lot of battery power.

The 5D MkII also has an "auto dimming" LCD. There's a sensor under it that adjusts the LCD a bit to ambient light conditions (I see the 7D has this too, none of the Rebels or xxD cameras have it, dunno if the 1D-series do). I find it a bit irritating when working outdoors because sometimes I accidentally cover the sensor with a finger or thumb when working in the menu or checking a histogram. So I've overridden the auto dimming feature and just set it to the brightest for use outdoors. I find it useful when shooting in darkened room, or going in and out of darker & lighter spaces. Just not outdoors in steady daylight.
