I've been watching this guy for a few weeks now. I think he is getting used to me because I can get closer to him . 50D and 100-400

Thanks artyman! I flipped the reflection shot upside down and asked my wife what she thought of the shot. She said she thought I had a better one, she didn't know it was upside down.

Very nicely done. The reflection in the first one is good, the clarity and intensity of the second one is terrific.

I agree with Judy (always). That reflection is dynamite.

Good job getting close! Excellent calm reflecting pond you got there :) great reflection shot; and nice colors.

The young ones are less skittish, I was able to get within about 12 feet of one here, but had some junk in the way of getting a good shot.. One landed on a branch just behind a tree that I was sitting at; less than a few feet away.. felt the wind from his wings flapping :) I keep going back for more, to watch as his/her feathers start moulting.. The Immature one seems to not mind me just walking up to it, if I don't move too fast.. Hopefully I can keep going back and watch it go through a full moult and hopefully kids don't start chasing them around or throw rocks at them like they do the ducks, right after feeding them.... :(

Thanks guys! I've been lucky enough to get close to him several times. I have yet to see him catch a fish or do anything other than just stand there.A friend of mine just posted a picture on Flickr showing the same heron in the same spot catching a small northern pike. I guess some people get a little more lucky than others. And the bad part is she uses a Nikon.
