OK, enough with the cars and airplanes... It's time for something a little different.

Nice change of pace there John! Great Stuff!

Being able to see something like this is one of the (few) things I miss about living in Philly.

I agree, nice change of pace. Nice to see things that we don't see all of the time. Beautiful photos.

The first is Star of India, a fully restored 1863 barque built on the Isle of Man and now owned and sailed by the San Diego Maritime Museum. She's iron-hulled and was in active service until 1922. She is classed as a windjammer (external link). The clippers (external link) were an earlier class of ship and were wooden-hulled.

The other vessel (both pictures) is Californian, a topsail schooner also owned and operated by the San Diego Maritime Museum. She was built in San Diego in 1984 and is a replica of the 1847 revenue cutter C.W. Lawrence which patrolled the coast of California during the gold rush.

Sorry for the poor quality, but this was shot with a 1999 vintage Olympus digital and processed before I knew any better.

Got a few of my own from this year's Tall Ships' Race too. Was pretty damn crowded there so I'm envious how you've managed to get such clean shots :).
