Hi guys

Don't let the title fool ya, this was definately NOT racing, as that's banned in Switzerland. Each group of cars were escorted around the 8km road course by a pace vehicle.

All pics with 50D and 24-70mm L and EXIF intact.

Nice work. It's good to see the Jaguar XJ13 running, they're letting that out more often nowadays (and yes, that is the real one) but they'd never let it race, of course.

Thanks. Yes, always good to see the old cars running. Although they don't race over here, apart from the odd hill climb, they do a lot of demos around road circuits.

as that's banned in Switzerland.

It would be enlightening to hear the "thinking" behind that!

3. Not your typical E-type Jag.

That was campaigned by "Group 44" (external link) here, along with other BL cars. Interesting that it's a "classic" now.

Nice to see those. It makes me wish all Canons could record sound with the images.

Agree Frank, sound would be great, if a little loud.

As for the thinking behind banning racing, it's too dangerous, apparently that was the thinking in the 70's when it got banned. Think they had a couple of bad accidents, so they decided on a blanket solution.

Thanks for the explanation. IMO, living is dangerous. Everyone eventually dies from it? ;)

It was banned in 1958 due to the death of 80 spectators at the 1955 24 Hours of Le Mans (not even in Switzerland!).

Even further back than I thought. I've tried asking the guys at work, but never got an answer. There are rumours that they want to build a racing circuit down Geneva way, but doubt it will happen.

I think that was Pierre LeVec? Didn't he blow an engine after driving for 23 hours straight?

Close - it was Pierre Levegh. It was the 1952 race where he ran for 23 hours and blew up after missing a shift.

In 1955 Levegh ran into the back of a slower car, was launched into an embankment and then somersaulted into the crowd.
