I currently shoot with a 30d and i think i want to upgrade bodies soon. there are so many options and i want yo hear your guys case/opinion on how these cameras stack up agaisnt each other. I shoot alot of different things from sports to portraits. I work in good light as well as unfavorable high iso conditions. i could stretch my budget and buy any of them eventually.

None of the above.
You've enough variance from the sounds of it that if it were me I'd have two different cameras, A 50D and a 5D. Or possibly a 1DSmk2.

Why yes, I am a jerk. Thank you for asking.

Sounds like you might be better with 2 bodies, one for portrait and one for sport. Thats just my 2 cents.

In my opinion, the 7D sounds perfect for you.
Crop isn't real the most ideal choice for portraiture, but it's still a darn good camera that is capable of it.
It's got the AF and speed for sports, and it has FAIRLY good noise\high-ISO handling, and it especially has the resolution for landscapes\portraiture.

I voted the 1d3, simply because you can get a little crop benefit for sports, good high ISO capability, and can still get pretty shallow DOF without going to FF entirely. If it were me getting only one body, i'd do this. Size of course, cannot matter.

The camera I use when I have a very mixed shoot is the 1D3. It does a great job for sports, PJ, studio and just about anything I need. The 5D2 is a very good body, just not as good at sports, but better for landscape (or wide angle) and studio (unless it is children that can't sit still). Can't comment on 7D, but I use the 50D when I need maximum reach and the light is decent. All said if I had just one body it would be the 1D3 (price not being considered). I don't think you can make a bad choice, good luck.

Out of the choices available, I'd choose the 1D3. Or if you could swing it, 1DmkII + 5D would be perfect.

I think the 7D would work well for you.

5D2 if you dont need speedy AF (I picked it because I love mine), 1D3 if you need speed. 5D + 1D2 is also a great option.

I already have a 5DMKII and a 40d. I'm about to upgrade the 40d to a 1DMK2N. I feel the 5D and 1D complement each other very well. The three L lenses I have go well with them too.

After looking @ your gear... i've come to the conclusion that you dont need a new body, YOU NEED GLASS.

Thanks for the input everyone. I think im going to throw the 5dMKII out of the picture. I guess you could say i need the versatility of a PJ while still placing importance on iso performance and af speed/tracking.
The ultimate for me would of course be two bodies but thats not in my budget right now. As far as lenses go, i have had access to a 24-70 and im going to pick up my own.
I have been sampling my friends 1dMKIIN and 7D and they seem nice. I actually shot some waterpolo today with the 7D and i can say that the AF and FPS are very nice assets, much better than my 30D.

How do the AF of the cameras stack up against eachother?

AF is top notch (assuming mirror fix). I haven't shot one at high isos.
