Up at Fern Canyon the Elk will let you walk up within 5' of them. I still kept a bit of distance, but was able to snap a few neat shots. Here is one of them.

Geez, who needs super, duper telephoto lenses for wildlife photography ??!!!

Nice shot Styk !! He's in very good condition isn't he. Looks like a heap of tucker there for him. Well done.

Yes, only 53mm for that pic. It was a bummer as I did not plan to encounter such a beautiful animal on my hike, so I brought my mediocre lens with me.

There were at least a dozen wondering around, this one was further inland, so I didn't have to walk as far. :)
