Hi from Montreal,Canada.

Here's my (small) problem: everybody here are very generous giving good advice, tips and tricks and sharing their links they found on the web on the various forum here. (I've learn a lot here. I just bought a G1 2 weeks ago). Is there anyone here using a Macintosh computer (i do) and if so, have you found on the web all those alternatives programs, sharewares, freewares (panorama , stiching, browsers, raw converters etc...)that you can find for Windows?

And it would be nice to specify if a shareware is available on both platform when it's possible.

Thank's a lot.

Anyone here from Montreal who could tell me where to find the Lensmate adapter in town or if the Olympus B-300 is available?

Hi,

I have had my G1 for 3 weeks now and I am using a G3 powerbook. Sorry, I am not in Montreal but in the UK, but I ordered the LensMate directly from Susan Doel (Seattle, http://www.lensmateonline.com/G1buy.html (external link)) and it arrived very quickly ; at one point she thought I was canadian and said that I could send a cheque from a canadian bank (check with her). The LensMate is very nice and greetly helps in protecting the lens. As for the B300, check http://www.dpreview.com …10&page=3&message=1425591 (external link). I do not have one.

I am for the time being using the software that came with the camera. I don't think you will find any raw converter for mac other than what Canon provides, because the specs for the raw format are not known and the development kit that Canon provides (only to companies), is for windows only. I am also planning to have a look at the various free/sharewares available on mac for image archiving... I will send you the links, I am planing to find them on the dpreview forum.

If I don't find anything I like, I will try to write something to extract the exif info from the .thm file and the jpeg image from the .crw, to build up a database of all the images I take (planning to write it in java, so that it would be "cross-platform", anybody done that already ?)

As an archive, I am burning one CD with the .crw and the .thm for all images, to be kept as 'digital negatives', and one CD with the corresponding TIFFs (in case it is impossible to convert the crw files in 20 years time).
It would be nice to know what others are doing...

JY

Thanks for your reply J.Yves.

I'll go for the lensmate with Susan D. I've read a lot of good comments on it.
As for the software, well, it's not that bad if i stick with Canon. I can live with the raw converting delay.

I don't have enough pictures taken to begin to think about archiving, but i intend to work with Canto cumulus software after burning Cd's.
Oh, by the way, don't be sorry not to live in Montreal, you live in a beautiful country with lots of opportunity for great photography. One day...$$$, i will make the trip.

Strange for 2 guys with french name to communicate in english. Are you from France or some french country?

Have a nice day.

Yves.
