So, I'm working on getting a price to a client for a Girl Scout, father daughter dance shoot.

They want a photo of each couple (240 couples). It will be dark (6-9pm) and indoors, so I will pretty much need to rent a mini-studio.

So that's why I'm here! I need some BASIC lighting help!
I figure all I really need is 2 strobes\lights, umbrellas or soft-boxes, stands, and pocket-wizards (Or an ST-E2 if I just go the 580EX II route)
I went on lensrentals.com to try and get some stuff together, and some pricing, and decided that I have no idea what I really need, or how to get it all to work!

Help would be greatly appreciated. Also, before you suggest something, please check lensrentals.com to be sure they have it :)

There's a million ways to do it right, but the simplest in my mind is a couple of shoe mount flashes mounted to lightstands

or Gorillapods

https://www.lensrentals.com/rent/gorillapod-large (external link)

in softboxes

https://www.lensrentals.com …hoe-flash-softbox-15-x-15 (external link)

triggered by your on-camera flash or an ST-E2

Not too heavy to carry around, easy to set up, no radio triggers and cables to malfunction.

(and I did check to make sure Lensrentals had them :-)

i suggest you do NOT go with the battery operated route

240 couples is a lot

i would prolly keep it simple
if i were to do it...id just use 2 alienbees with shoot thru umbrellas
one left and one right
one side 45 degrees from the couple and the other as fill light more than 45 degrees on the opposite side...almost to the side of them

How about this little setup?

http://www.lensrentals.com …two-head-studio-flash-kit (external link)

With pocket-wizards... (Will I need 3 pocket-wizards? 1 to send from the camera, and then 1 for each strobe?)

That's nice too. You can use PWs: one on the hotshoe to send, and one receiving on each strobe. Or you can trigger the second strobe by the flash from the first and just use one receiving PW.

Alright, and 1 more question for that setup.
Do both of those strobes connect to that one battery(thing)?
If so, can I plug the battery (I'm pretty sure that's what it is) into an outlet? Or will I just need to find\rent a second one?

I plan on firing these strobes around 300 times, for the one shoot... So I may need some extra power

That is just a power pack, it would plug into an outlet and the lights plug into the power pack which basically is just your light power control.
