John: Thanks for the replies, I'm looking forward to handling the G11 and S90 in a store. I'm leaning more towards the G11, since I too prefer a hotshoe, as well as the swivel screen, and probably even the adapter tubes/lenses/filters.

I picked up a G11 about 3 weeks ago as a backup to my dslr. Sweet camera. I'm really happy with it. Here are a couple of shots from this weekend.

What is the white dot in the middle of the flower? Intentional? Not? Editing? Nice pictures. Really like this forum for someone new to the G11 and real photography.

The white dot in the center is just part of the flower. There was very little editing done to the shot.

Phil - Looking good - I will do one of those, on the way to work, heading towards Exeter - Sunrise at Teignmouth, Devon - a panorama, a joiner made up of two pictures stitched together...

Keith the white bit in the center of the flower is called the stamen, I think, well that's what someone told me,

Jack.

Here are a couple courtesy of my one week old G11.

To be truthful the first one did not quite hit the mark focus wise so I decided to make a virtue out of a necessity by using photoshop to apply even more blur to the rest of the photo leaving the subject looking comparatively sharp. Never the less, quite happy although I can see what they say about it being a bit slow for moving subjects - the original zone of focus had fallen just behind the main subjects who were moving towards me.

As were these old ladies - but I venture to say at a much slower pace.

Just picked up a G11 today! Brand new for $400.00, so I'm pretty stoked. The girlfriend wanted something that 'records video and has a swivel screen' so I convinced her into the G11!

Here are a few shots with the 580 EXII mounted up, having fun shooting my other toys.

Perhaps one more while I am about it.

This one of my wife shot under very dark conditions using ISO 1600 setting. Even so it was a slow shutter speed - at the limit of hand hold ability so its not especially crisp, sharpness wise but OK for this type of photo. I was particularly happy with the lack of chroma noise - just some luma noise that looked quite film like and was easily reduced on post processing. My D200 could not match it even with its much larger sensor. Colors have been softened here to match the mood.
