How to shoot under the floodlights?

Tonight I will need to be taking karting snaps under floodlight, obviously I cannot use the flash, so what tricks should I use to get good pictures?

The kit is an EOS350D with a 250mm lens.

Any help much appreciated and I'll post up the results later this eveing.
