I don't know how to critique this, but my amateur opinion is that the background is too distracting and not enough blur effect.

Having said that, I like the first pic the best :)

Hi. Echo the first comment. Too much stuff visible in the background. The mono needs lightening and some more contrast. No. 3 would have been better without the part of the chair visible, and perhaps if you'd been more on the bride's level , or having her look up at you - seeing her eyes would have been better.

This wedding lark isn't easy, is it?

Ditto, and expression is in the eyes, they look at us, we look at them and a connection is made to the subject. That birdfeeder is a big no, no. But, keep shooting, you are on the way.

Location ... blah. wheel barrels and lawn chairs in a bridal shot... I dunno, it could work, but not the way they are set up here.

Thanks so much and keep it coming... lol and no weddings I have found are not easy... :D As for location goes... thats all I had to work with on this shoot... I would much rather have been somewhere else... but hey when its in downtown what do you do...

As for the blur effect... I could do that in photoshop but like I said these are unedited... I did shoot them in Raw so I can play with them a bit...

Thanks again and keep it coming.. :)

1 - I like the sense of emotion and action you got here. I agree, the background is pretty busy and I wish we were at a slightly different angle.

2 - Perhaps a snob but this kind of shot doesn't work as well with fake flowers IMO lol. They just look fake ;) The crop is a little off, I think there should be more on the bottom of the image, and I feel your B&W is a bit flat.

3 - okay, nice smile but at first glance this looks like you caught her in mid blink! Especially looking at the tiny bit of eyeball we see on the right eye (our right looking at the image). It looks really weird. Exposure is great though!

4 - I'd say this is my favorite one. The way it's composed eliminates some of the clutter in the background, we have a better view of the bride as well. It doesn't really grab me but it's sweet.

Overall focus and exposure look right. They only look soft to me in that 'this image has been resized and compressed for web viewing and has not had any web sharpening run on it to make up for that'.. way lol. they seem like they're probably in focus.

I am super cool n' stuff.

Can't see the EXIF information, but can you remember what the aperture was on these? Background (make it go away) and the subjects eyes are the biggest items for me. Keep working on it. :)

When I have cluttered backgrounds I try and go tighter with my composition (as much as I can) + shoot wide open. #3 is not flattering to the bride at all :(, I'd get rid of it. I love #4 the best but again would crop it tighter.

errr, nice yellow shed?

(kidding)

We all have a "first".. ;)

First, look at many of the other wedding shots on this forum - they are spectacular.

Second, try to copy the technique, many books and websites to go to enhance your technique.

Third, take lots more pics!

Great start - you'll only get better!

Beautiful Bride and dress.

Yes I know what you mean... Like I said none of these have been edited... I just converted them to jpeg and resized the images to fit on here... Now when you say you shoot wide open what are you meaning by that? lol im still a noob.. :D
