I already saw several post of beautiful birds from Puerto Rico.
Here another one from the island.

The Puerto Rican Woodpecker is an endemic bird from
Puerto Rico and Vieques island. Hope you like!

Hi jcumming,

Thanks for the nice comments.
I use a Canon 30D, Canon 500mm and 1.4TC on a tripod.
The f-stop was 5.6 and ISO 400.

The day I took this photo the morning light was great.

Thanks Anke,
This is a male woodie, female colors are not so vivid.

Thanks canonloader,
I was very lucky to be in the right spot at the right hour.

Thanks a lot for your comments.

We've got some mighty nice ones here in the old US, too--esp. out West, where there's more variety than in the East. The Acorn woodpecker is one of the most bizarre, but lovely around.

Thanks a lot for your comments Shar824

Hi artyman, unfortunately this old three branch no longer exist.
But the woodpecker is always around

Hi Eric,
Are you the guy that like to photograph surfers in Puerto Rico?
I believe that we meet a year ago at Cabo Rojo, near the lighthouse.
I was shooting some Great Egrets and we talk about the 500mm lens.
At that time I shoot a lot with a monopod.
Its is good to hear of you again :D

jdeitch11, I just search the internet for the Acorn woodpecker and WOW!!!
this bird is a real beauty. Thanks for teaching me about it.

Thanks to all for your nice comments.

Rene

Hi Nighthound, thanks for your comments.
Normally these woodies are very noisy, but this one surprise me because
it was looking for food very quietly.

Thanks ajosteve, I appreciate your words.
This is a great website for bird shooters. I post not too much, but visit it
daily, to see new birds and to learn new ideas to photograph.
