Any news on when we can expect this lens in the Great White North, eh?

Most shops here are taking pre-orders for the 7D and 100L. Some stores out east have already gotten stock of the 7D.

I know here in SK the 7D is already in stores so I would imagine that the 100L is there too, but not necessarily.
Being your in Calgary, why not call Dons, VIstek, or The Camera shop? They will tell you if its there or not and might even have a date on it to be there.
I know Don's here had the 7D on hand as I got a bit of play time with it.

I was told early October, but I never heard back from the place I was going to order it from, so I just got mine from B&H.

I called my friend at The Camera Store in Calgary this afternoon and he said they have them on order (the 100L IS Macro), but do not have any in the store yet. He also said that even if they get some, there has been no promise as to how many they wil get. I know this doesn't really help all you Camera Store fans, but que cera, cera! Who knows, the way this businees runs in this city (Calgary) they could get 6 in on Monday, or nothing until mid-November - go figure.

Cheers,

WesternGuy

That sounds about right for Canada.
I try to buy from Canada to support the shops here, but between the strength of the dollar, the availability, and the absurdity of some prices, it is sometimes very hard to do.

Buying from B&H would be about $1304 after shipping, 13% sales tax, and exchange rate/fees. It would be $1287 from The Camera Store ordering out of province with only 5% GST. B&H will have it to you by Wednesday, or Tuesday for $10 more. Why wait?

for $10 I'll always buy locally (10% actually). I have one on order from Saneal, where I buy most my stuff, they just don't know when to expect it. Thanks for your replies guys.

Yeah, I've done the dance with The Camera Store before. (5DII, 200mmF2 etc), They would never tell me where in line I stood, or when I might expect my ordered (often pre-paid or at least a deposit) gear. They think they have no competition and their prices are the best. They are wrong.
One of the reasons I ended up with Saneal. Good honest (competitive) folks.

The problem with Saneal Camera is no return allowed, you can only do exchange or get store credit, this is reason why I ended up with Camera Store.

My first experience with The Camera Store was for a 40D pre-order they weren't able to fill until 3 weeks after the other dealer I contacted at the same time. Not their fault, I guess.

Since then, I've e-mailed them (multiple e-mail addresses) on three separate occasions over the past couple of years about Gitzo tripod pricing and stock. I have yet to receive a reply to any of my e-mails. Obviously I could give them a call, but it's never been a pressing issue, and it's a now running joke among my friends. I know they've been receiving the e-mails, because I get signed up for their newsletter every time.

Didn't mean to blow you off ddong with no reply. I do appreciate your feedback, and didn't know about Saneal's no return policy. You are correct, I read it on the wall when I picked up the lens a few minutes ago. I will consider that in the future if buying something that I might someday need to return. Haven't had to so far though. It is nice dealing at a shop that knows your name and needs. I'm considering the 28/300L and they'll call me when the two on order come in.

Lens looks and feels great btw.

Thanks again,
Len B

I ordered one from my local tiny shop - Canon Canada has a deal on for October for her and she gave me a price of $1195. And I have 3 months to pay for it! I hardly buy anything locally bacause she can't compete on price - but this was too good to pass up and I can feel good about buying locally...

So, anyone want a super sharp Sigma 105? LOL
