Hello. I was told by Really Right Stuff that there are two versions of the Canon BG-E6 grip for the 5D Mark II. I've searched on the Internet but can't find any details on this. Just wondering if anyone has heard of a version 1 and version 2 of this grip.

Never heard of that--I assume they mean that Canon made 2 different versions? Not a knock off or anything?

never heard of that.

Could RRS have meant there are 2 types of L plates, 1 for 5D II body only and the other for 5D II + grip?

Yes, RRS is saying there have been two different versions of the BG-E6 but I think it was a quiet change (meaning there are no obvious markings). The RRS L-bracket is $183 and I'm not sure it fits as well as the one on my 5D. Problem is, the lady that I ordered it from says she sent me the new one (I just got my BG-E6 so I'm assuming I have the new one) and the fellow that I just spoke to says I have the old one and he won't tell me what the difference is!

Do you know the difference between the "Mark I" and the "Mark II"? Apparently, RRS had to change their machining to accomodate the design-change of the BG-E6.

Thanks

Nope. They are telling me there is a new design. From their website,
http://reallyrightstuff.com …desc.asp?ic=BGE6-L&eq=&Tp (external link)=
It says that they show the old design. Just last week, the same web page stated that there was a design change.

From doing some more digging, it seems that the "old" RRS L-plate was model, "BGE6-L" and the new one is stamped, "BGE6-L 5B".

Confusing, isn't it?

I just realized that the L-bracket is almost as much as the battery grip so I want to make sure I got the right one.

I was actually kidding, mine is the same as everyone elses. I don't think there is a mark II and I don't think there is anything that you need to worry about with yours. I could be wrong, but I highly doubt that Canon has changed the design. Maybe, if they determined there was something wrong with it, they might revise it to fix that problem, but I don't see how they would change the actual dimensions or design in any way.
