Win 7: Photo Viewer vs. Desktop Background Color Inconsistencies

With all my pics, I get the color just the way I like it in PS CS3 and it looks the same in Windows Photo Viewer, but when I set the same picture as my desktop background, the color is completely different. I'm at a lost for why Windows interprets the colors different between the two. Any ideas?

Actually, I kind of like the way the desktop one looks in this one vs the Photo Viewer, but my point is the same:

Any thoughts? I have the monitor calibrated, and the files are TIFFs.

Probably the same thing I see with Vista, the desktop is not colour managed. Simply convert the image to your monitor profile within photoshop but ensure you only use it for your own desktop.
