Canon lens & camera Repair work done - Very disappointed with Canon....

About two weeks ago I sent my canon 30D, grip and 70-200 2.8 in to be repaired at there NJ repair facility. The battery grip gear was stripped out on my grip and couldn't get it off my camera, and my shutter button was very worn on my camera. I also wanted them to look at the AF. They worked on every thing I sent in. Since it took canon a day longer to work on my lens, they sent me two packages back....but canon shipped both my camera and lens to the wrong address, no wonder since they used my last name as the street! Since canon won't let fed-ex change the addy I had to drive 20 miles to the airport and pick it up. I would't really be a little up set with them, but now my auto focus is worse than it was before, it even search's more than it ever did, and it is not near as sharp. Not what I wanted for $305 of repair work.

I called canon and told them what was going on and they sent me a emial with a UPS shipping layble so I can ship it back. I'm not sure if I should, I have a wedding to shoot the 18th of this month and I fear they will not have it back by then.

I am very frustrated & disappointed with the NJ Canon repair facility.

They took prompt care of my 28-105mm with a loose focus ring and shipped it back promptly. Sucks though.

How did it take less than 5 days to get it back to you??

I'd request a loaner body w/ 70-200 if you have to send it back in. Surely they could swing that.

What good is a camera going to do you at a wedding when you cannot rely on it? Imagine you shoot that wedding only to find out that every pic is out of focus. I would send it back and request a a loaner, or I would rent a body and lens for the wedding - even if I'd have to pay for it myself. Imagine how upset the bride would be otherwise.......

I had my XT serviced at the NJ facility and they fixed the problem promptly as well.

I have had repairs, cleanings, calibrations, warrantee work and non-warrantee work, the NJ facility has always given me great service. Fast and problem free. The return labels for the shipping is filled out by the customer....any chance you filled in the wrong box? Are you a CPS member?

Weird. I just sent them a lens two weeks ago for an AF/MF switch replacement and calibration. They turned it around quickly and the repairs were absolutely perfect. I didn't even get charged for the switch - just the labor. I'm a happy camper.

good luck with that one. in my experience they offer to expedite shipping at best unless you are a CPS member.

regarding the loaner, that depends on how guilty you make them feel over there, and how you approach them. They obviously can do it with CPS members, so if you charm the right person, you may be in luck.

Even as a non-CPS member, I've gotten next-day priority shipping on my repaired items (a 1d body and a 580 flash). They seem to be in a good mood lately.

Bummer! I have used them three time in the past two years with great success. My worse problem was when my 24-70MM f/2.8 EF L refused to disconnect from my 30D. Wrapped the whole mess up in 1/2 mile of bubble wrap and sent it off to NJ. Got it back in one week with all working properly. They even cleaned the 30D's sensor and "calibrated" the 24-70MM as part of the service. And, of course, fixed the lens locking mechanism on the 30D.

I am totally happy with them.

Yeah, I got next day priority when my XT was repaired.
