Just bought a 100 2.8 macro and took some shots of a bee very happy with this lens:D

missed focus on eye in first one, very shallow depth - what aperture were you using?

Try stopping down your aperture and adding flash. You'll greatly increase your Depth of Field, but you'll need a lot more light. Check out the Talk About Photography/Macro Talk forum: https://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthre​ad.php?t=142566 :)
