What do you take photos of? And have you considered the Tamron 28-75? Less range, faster lens (F2.8), and generally better image quality.

Sorry about this, but what about the Tamron 28-75. I spent weeks searching the net for comparisions and reviews of the 28-75 and the Canon 28-135 and settled on the Tamron - and I am very happy with it. A constant 2.8 also. Remember the 17-85 is on of those EFS that only work on 20D/300-350D so resale might be affected.

I mainly shoot for car magazines.... so the wide angle of the 17-85 is good... but what about focusing and quality though????

thanks for your feed back, any more would be greatly appreciated though as i am stumped...

If you want to be able to blur your backgrounds at all, neither of those Canon lenses will do it very well. The 28-135 is an older IS system, given the 17-85 is newer I guess it's a newer generation and prob works better. I've heard many wedding photographers, Bob included, who say if they could only have one lens they'd have the 28-135.

Like a few people have said, consider the Tamron too.

i just like the 17 mm for interior shots with IS thats my main upside.

i plan to just keep the new lense and my 70 - 200 L in the bag as then i would be pretty covered ...

I just bought the 28-75 Tamron over the weekend. Excellent sharpness and the lens is pretty unforgiving at the widest apertures.

I like the bokeh from the lens too. Adding to the recommendations for this lens on this site.

Um... glass quality's the whole point of choosing lenses.
