Hi,

I did comparision in action (wedding, daily work outside - reportage)
The participants:

Canon 28-105/3,5-4,5
Canon 28-135/
Canon 17-85
Tokina 28-70/2,6-2,8
Tamron 28-75
Sigma 28-70/2,8

and after a week of shooting I can only say go with TAMRON ... I did it after this test ...

All were on my 20 D and EOS 3

To me it is a no-brainer.
You have the 70-200 range covered
The Tamron 28-75 is a good lens, but not wide enough for auto shows
Ditto for the 28-135
17-85 IS wins.

If in doubt, I shut up...

Gear: 40D, 12-24mm AT-X Pro, 17-85mm, Sigma 150mm Macro Sigma 100-300 F4, 550EX, other stuff that probably helps me on my way.

I went to buy the Tamron at the local camera store 3 weeks ago. They were sold out ( if that tells you something ). Knowledgeable guy behind the counter sold me on the 28-135 is. So far I have been pleased with its performance in low light conditions w/o flash.

17-40L? :D Or even the 18-55 kit lens and save up for your Tamron 28-75!

Too much gear...
