Sitting in a coffee house in Cheyenne Wyoming waiting for the Interstates to open after 11 inches of snow. Made it from Estes Park Colorado on some very slippery and snowy highways on our way back to Minnesota... So... while I wait, I'll share some photos.

Nice shots -- and good luck with the weather. I had to laugh when I read they called off today's baseball game in Denver because of the weather!

Thanks everyone!!

Mike, The elk was big.. He was pretty close also. I kept close to the truck ready to dive in if necessary. The picture was taken with my 100-400 at 100mm. The photo was not cropped. He was paying attention to a female elk that was nearby and not as much to the spectators.

EDG, They were likely cold, but friendly. They were wanting handouts I think as they swam right up to my feet. If I was a duck, this would be the lake I'd like to swim in as it was beautiful. I left with a good photo. The ducks watched me leave, disappointed with the fact this visitor followed the no handouts to wildlife rule :)

Nice shots, John. Even ducks look better in the San Juans.

Ha! I too was stuck in Cheyenne after that snow storm. Slept in our car all night, it sucked!

Hey, John - nice images!

I'm curious to know if you took the elk in RMNP. Also, when did you take the image? I was down in Estes Park/RMNP a few weeks ago for the peak of the elk rut. Perhaps we were in the same "elk jam" at some point?

"Your" and "you're" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"They're", "their", and "there" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"Fare" and "fair" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one. The proper expression is "moot point", NOT "mute point".

I am glad we were only stuck in town for a couple hours. They opened the freeway heading North and we went in that direction. MANY cars in the road ditch. If everyone would have taken it easy and just stayed in their lane, things would have been fine. As soon as someone tried to pass and hit the pile of slush in the middle, they'd loose control and often take a couple others with. We avoided any mishaps and by about 75 miles north, I-25 was just wet.

We spent most of our vacation from 10/4 to 10/9 around the Ouray CO area. We just spent the evening of the 9th in Estes Park and visited RMNP to take some pics of the Elk that evening. If you were there on the 9th around 4pm, we were likely in the same elk-jam! :)

Thanks everyone for the nice replies!!
