Wondering if it is worthwhile to upgrade from PSE7 to PSE 8.... anyone made the change and did you find it worth it? Thanks

It would not suit me. I don't like the trend towards "managing" AKA a big digital filing cabinet, rather than concentrating on post processing.

PS7 is as pure a post processer as I have found. I have tested CS4 and Elements and dumped both.

I've read on POTN that Elements 8 (Mac) has a full ACR, not the crippled one that Elements 6 has. That would be worth the upgrade IMO. No idea on the PC side of things.

PSE8 on Windows has the same crippled ACR like its predecessors. :(

Are you sure? It seems that PSE8 (mac) has both, depending on how you open ACR:

That's probably because Windows has the "Organiser" whilst Mac comes bundled with Bridge CS4 instead.

Bridge CS4 allows you to open up ACR within Bridge without Photoshop or Elements being open and I suspect that Adobe forgot to limit Bridge's own Raw processing capability for the Elements release.

It depends on how you open your RAW file. In Elements 8 for Macs if you right click a thumbnail and choose Open in Camera Raw, you get the full[/B] CS4 version of ACR.

Back to original question though, and I'd say the answer is no.

The pixel editing tricks haven't changed much between 7 and 8. I moved from 6 to 8 on the Mac and was thinking of sticking with 6 TBH until I discovered the Raw anomaly as most of the actions I had installed in 6 for curves/layer masks aren't working under 8 yet.

I've found no similar way doing this with PSE for Win, you can't open ACR standalone. Lucky Macs...:)

Thanks for the tip. I'm just trying PSE 8 having just moved to a MAC.
However, I notice that the right click method opens the full version of Camera RAW 5.0 within Bridge but double clicking opens the Elements limited version of Camera RAW 5.5.
Both open my 40d CR2 files OK but just wondered what the difference the .5 makes?

That's correct, double clicking an icon will bring up Element's limited version of ACR whilst CMD+R or right clicking will open the full version. As regards the difference between 5.0 and 5.5, well generally each sub release simply adds extra camera compatibility for new cameras, so I wouldn't worry about it as you're using a 40D.

What is the problem with Adobe UK Marketing for PSE 8 Mac?

Adobe US site offers a discount of $20 for downloading rather than full boxed product -makes sense as company do not have to box and ship the product.

Adobe UK site charges £4 extra for the download version !!!!!

Strange, I got it at a small discount over a hard copy IIRC.

Edit: just had a look, now that is weird!
