Only shot for 1 half because I don't own any real protection gear (yet) for bad weather. Rigged up enough to get by.

Weather was 100% humidity all night. Saturated air gave way to light rain which turned into a steady drizzle by half-time. Closed up shop and went home. And wouldn't you know it, my HS Junior saw his first varsity action (he's been injured) in the 2nd half of a 42-7 Homecoming blowout game! Only me!

Here's some of the eerie action. No flash. Just high ISO and decent field lighting.

1) Early in Q1. I shot four frames on this run and didn't get a defender in any!

2. When a D-Lineman intercepts a tipped ball and returns it for a touchdown ...

3. ... the defense parties!

4. The air was satuated but incredibly still. It didn't feel cold at all ...

5. Things were starting to look pretty eerie about now and the rain is coming harder.

6. This poor kid completed only a handful of passes all night and was picked off at three times in the first half alone.

7. Umbrellas everywhere. Love the kids ... nothing bothers them!

8. A parting shot before packing it in after on half of Homecoming Football Game

Think I'll continue to crank up the ISO on the 50D and take my lumps as flash has been too unpredictable. Plus, our home field is very well lit for a HS facility. I think 2000 was as high as I had to go and still got 1/500 on the 70-200 f/2.8 IS. Plenty ok for me.

What do you guys think?

Know what you mean. I've been posting these kids pics on a website for them. Getting to the point in the season where how many times can I post another pic of #5 or #7 or #8 scoring a TD? Got lucky and caught the entire interception return from the 30 to TD. Also got a couple of nice catches, too.

Last night was such a wierd weather night so decided to post that kind of stuff rather than the real action shots.

Also been taking more of the band, crowd, cheerleaders, cops, popcorn sellers, ticket takers ... can you tell I'm gettin' bored 7 games into the seaons?!!!

Thanks for looking and commenting. Appreciate the look! ;)

Don't be afraid to use the ISO if necessary. I think it is sweet you could get away with ISO 2000 and still get 1/500! On our field, I had to use ISO 6400 to get that! But with some NR, the images came out nice. The only trouble I had was with focusing; it would take longer to lock on focus.

And I hear you about getting bored. I shot this past Friday only the defensive and offensive lines and some bench and crowd shots.
