She was obviously caught out of position on a pass.. but as they say it's the goaltender's best friend! She was going to miss the end of the season for the Olympics as Germany's goaltender, but they failed to qualify for Vancouver 2010.

A couple more, WB better than last time but still working on getting better angles.

Opponent deeked and completed a hat trick, but her team still lost 5-3 to UMD. A rather extreme zoom/crop with the goaltender in focus.

Not all that interesting a picture here, but IF you follow the NHL, St. Louis Blues coach Andy Murray's daughter (22-white), a senior this year..I hear her Brother will be with the Wisconsin Badgers next year.

It looks like you completely blown the highlights in these shots. They look good except all forms of white (jersey, ice, boards) are all completely "white" with no highlights or shadows.

Ditto . Your ice is too hot.

Are you using a standard size crop or just unrestricted? On it's own, a shot with non-traditional dimensions looks odd IMO. Same shot worked into an article with text surrounding it works, but not just by itself.

Great timing on the first shot hitting the post. I think there is great action in the first three shots. The ice does look a little "hot" but that is ok in my opinion if the players are properly exposed. Your are close but maybe just a touch over exposed.

Looking forward to more.

I went up to 1/800 for today to work on the ice being blown out...it might be that I have too much noise being removed that's screwing with the ice a bit more...but just got back home from a women's/men's doubleheader so just to the point of taking pictures off the CF card right now.... As for the awkward crops I was playing around with stuff a little .. the pictures do end up mostly in text based use, whether on my blog or by the U on their website, but I really didn't take care to really crop/resize them as it was a 'just get them done' attitude with a lingering cold for a week..today being the first day I've really felt decent and not spent most of the day coughing.

I do find it interesting seeing the difference in opinions on the ice being blown out though..when I find the 'happy medium' between the two :) AND if only I had access to the strobes but that won't happen unless the university decided to hire me to actually do this stuff, but I know that's not happening so it'll be high ISO shots.

Another interesting thing is someone at the games is shooting with a 100-400L 4.5-5.6 on a 5D MKII .. she shoot JPG and prefers underexposed everything and just tinker with them at home to try to get them to look good.. I haven't seen any of her prints but I did look through her LCD and was shocked at how dark she's actually shooting.. even at ISO 6400 (yes, she's shooting indoors and sometimes even going up to F8).. I almost think I should stay away from her tips and stick to the people on POTN ;)

A couple from today...

As mentioned earlier, I went up to 1/800 to see how it affected the blown out ice.. The next hockey games to shoot won't be for 2 weekends now, but i might go back to 1/640 and start lowering the ISO from 3200 to 2500 and/or 2000 and decide from there.
