1D Classic settings for basketball

How would you setup a 1D Classic for basketball. Can the 1/500 shutter speed be useful in any way, with a shoe-mounted flash? In this gym, the typical lighting is ISO 1600, SS=1/400, at f/2.2

Also, I wouldn't use on-camera flash for basketball. You'll tick off the players and especially the officials, not to mention may be asked to stop taking pics.

I normally have my 2 flashes at the end of the gym, bounced off the ceiling or the wall even. I was normally at 3.2 and 400 or so I think.

Thanks folks. I used my 1DII today, instead of the 1D. I had to push the ISO up to 3200 to get OK shutter speeds. I haven't downloaded the pics yet so I don't know what to expect out of the 1DII ISO 3200 performance. Fighting a bad cold. I'll see how the pics turned out later.
