Yesterdays Wedding

The weather outside....well it rained. When it wasn't raining, it was misting. Great couple and wedding party as well. All outside venues that were chosen we really could not use because of how muddy it was. So we picked a road next to one of the venues....and played "car" as they drove by. I picked a new lens a few days before hand - the Canon 50mm f/1.2. Most, if not all of these images were shot using it....I think its a keeper.

That's great! How did you have the flashes setup?

Most pics taken at f1.2, maybe one or so at f2.2 - tripod used with all of them. All set at -1/3 ev. Flash set on ETTL, direct flash on HSS. Most only have minor adjustments - very little exposure work, some slight sharpening and levels - all in Apple Aperture.

I don't mean to be overly critical as you worked with what the weather gave you but I think the combination of the wide aperture and the flash blasting gives them too much of a pasted-on-the-background look. The last one is a cool shot but it looks photoshopped because of the difference in lighting on them and the bkg.

I like your posing with the groups but it also shows inconsistency from ETTL exposures. Being on a tripod and obviously well thought out, why not put it on manual? I think the ETTL exposure bouncing around also made the WB look a little off since they don't all get the same amount of flash. (#2 and #3 have orange skin tones but the next two are pinkish from the flash)

Thanks for the comments. Due to the weather, I only had several minutes to get it all together and shoot everything - if it started raining again it was going to be over. I have a couple of portable soft boxes and pocket wizards I planned on using for better and even lighting. So, I did the best I could and used ETTL on camera.

#4 is lite too much and the last one took place at to totally different location with different lighting. On that one, I had to crop the big grey / white overpowering sky out and it has the sides darkened to accent the people not the bushes. These are also linked from my photobucket site so the quality is very low. On my screen, most skin colors are spot on.

To tell the true, I was going for the pasted on background look. The pics are exactly what I wanted and planned on.

I like em! Chopped off one of the heads of the groomsman on the last one, but just barely. I'd still give it to them if you didn't have any others.

Thanks....that was just the border program I used to post here....the head is not cropped off on my website.
