Since I wasn't riding myself I took my camera down to a local XC race yesterday. It was the first time I'd shot mountain bike racing and it was particularly challenging shooting in dark pine forest with spots of bright sunlight filtering through the trees and I could have benefited from an off camera flash instead of the 40D's built in.

Let me know what you think.

Those are great 'X-I'.

The on-camera flash has done a great job of fill.

Apart from the bottom of the tyre missing, the last shot is my pick. You captured a fantastic expression of intense concentration. Nice job.

Matt.

Cheers... the red-eye bothers me too. How does one prevent it when shooting with the built in flash like this (other than tuning on red-eye reduction of course)?
