On my 40D, after pressing one of the settings buttons on top of the camera (AF/Drive, ISO/EC, etc.) they timeout after six seconds. Am I missing a Cfn that could extend that time? I don't think I am, but wanted to ask in case. Given all the other flexibility, I'm curious why this isn't configurable. I just don't see a drawback to being able to extend that time to a timeout.

Steve

Why would you need it set to longer?

I'm old, arthritic hand, don't see too well, like to use the LCD info screen to show me the settings. Since it's easier to read. If I could bump that time to 8, or 10 seconds, it woud be useful on rare occasions when I m
taking my time to think about a shot. Wouldn't use it often, just be nice to have. So I Take there's not one?

An option to add any other key (or all) to wake up the camera if it goes to sleep, with the shutter press as the default, would be cool too.

On a scale of 1-10, it's a 1...

Steve

You have to go up to the 1D Mark III level to get that configurable.

On the 50D and the 7D you can adjust the settings using the rear LCD as well. And those icons are even bigger than the ones on top. I assume the 40D has the same feature.

Does that not work for you?

The 40D has the ability to show the settings on the rear screen, but it does not allow you to directly change them in 'menu fashion' like on the 500D, 50D, 5DmkII, and 7D..

No, it doesn't, but if you do have the INFO-screen on at the rear, you'll see large copies of the settings you are doing with the three buttons in front of the top display, as well as settings for AF point selection.
