Okay, still on trial of Aperture, compared erroneously to iPhoto earlier, why is the cool stuff hidden under Images | Edit With | "Dodge & Burn"

Seems like it is a bolt on, seems like it would be more intuitive to launch from interface ? Am I missing something.

By cool Stuff, I mean brush editing of saturation, dodge & burn, sharpen, etc.

It is actually a "bolt on" or plug-in. Lightroom has them too -- special programs to do specific jobs that you can hand off an image to and the image gets returned to your developer. The downside is that in both Aperture and LR you get a tiff copy of your image that can bloat your library and hard drive. But, it's an efficient way to get "special" work done and stay within your Raw processor.

In Lightroom, though, many local edits like this have actually been built into the Raw processors so you don't need the plug-ins for a lot of work.

Shades to the rescue. :)

Although some have complained about the color rendering when Shades is used - especially in shadow tones. I have found that calibrating and profiling with Color Eyes Display Pro addresses the issue pretty effectively, controlling the brightness at the video card level and adjusting the curves for the RGB appropriately to control color shifts. I don't use an iMac, but there is one in our office and it tamed the blazing screen well.

LR2 has great photoshop integration, Aperture has none. LR2 over Aperture any day, but download the trials for both and see what you like.

This is incorrect Aperture can send the image to an outside editor ie Photoshop and when you are done all you do is save the image and Aperture adds it as a version to the stack for the master.
