Weekend HS Soccer

It was sectionals weekend for boys soccer here in Indiana. Here are some pics from the New Palestine vs. Mt. Vernon sectional championship game on Saturday night (Oct 10). New Pal won their fourth straight sectional crown with a 3-2 OT victory over Mt. Vernon. Yes, it was a very busy day for me, shooting football at Lucas Oil Stadium in the morning and a soccer sectional championship game that evening. The next morning I felt as if I had played in both games....must be getting old <grumble>.

I recently just picked up 70-200 F2.8 L IS lens and looking for the proper settings to use when taking pictures of my sons Soccer game.

Shots 1-6 were with the 70-200 2.8 IS at f/2.8, ISO was either at 100 (early in the game) or 200 (as the sun got lower), manual exposure was set mostly at 1/1600 sec but I did use 1/2000 on one or two of the images.

I determined the exposure to use by metering off of the grass in Av mode at f/2.8 and noted the shutter speed it selected, and then used those settings in manual mode since the light was fairly even across the field (at least at the start of the game). Late in the game there were some shadows on the west side of the field that did cause me a few problems, but it wasn't too bad to deal with.

Shot 7 was with the 17-55 2.8 IS at ISO 800, Av (aperture priority), f/2.8, 1/200 sec, +2/3 EV compensation.

Sorry, next time I won't strip out the exif info from my blog images.
