This game is to help those of us who are trying to learn new tricks when it comes to editing.

Here's the breakdown of the game. I will post a picture that I choose, resized to exactly 1024 pixels maximum on the long side. Outside of being resized it has to be unedited...meaning no adjustments to any levels, it has to look like it did as it came out of the camera.

The game will last 72hrs and whoever can produce the best edited image (as judged by me) will be picked and it'll be their turn to post their unedited picture for all of us to take a crack at.

The participants must have their "Image Editing OK" turned on and they must provide at least a simple breakdown of how they edited the image, some entrants are a little vague on this point, please give us all details so we can learn and share tips. For instance if you use the unsharp mask tool or Smart Sharpen, provide us with the adjustments you used so others can try them out.

You can post multiple images, but the first image you post will be the one that is judged - all other images will be considered for knowledge and tip use only.

Also, please keep all comments, be they positive or negative, to yourself until after the game has ended.

If you happen to be the winner of the game please start the next one with the title of the game and the following number. For example…the next game should read "Before & After #227".

This is all about having fun so have at it!!!

Contest ends 11 a.m EST on Thursday the 15th.

I thought this one might be fun. I've enabled the original (just click on the photo) so you have the ability to work on it full size before you re-size to 1024x whatever for the contest). Looking forward to seeing your results. (If you guys would prefer a 1024 size, I'll post that too). I just like working on higher res. photos.

the attached images is the pre-sized 1024 photo. Use whichever you like. Just be sure to re-size to 1024 before uploading, if you use the full size image to edit.

GIMP:
Cloned out barrier, shadows and green grass
Used fabric texture from cgtextures.com, grain merge layer mode
Duplicated fabric layer, set to burn mode
Layer mask - generated noise, blurred, played with threshold
Vignette behind fabric layer
Layer mask - generated random fog, increased contrast

Interesting that I did about the same thing, at the same tome, as Lore and came up with this.

All vg edits.

Lore, I was wanting to clone out the barrier...but it took a lot of work. Nice job.

Chauncey, I plan to put this in a sepia tone. I like your edit.

Spitfire, that is truly unique. I really like the idea of putting a texture on this shot. I wasn't going to do it, but I see the benefits from your edit.

The winning vote goes to Lore. I appreciate being able to see that it's worth the effort to remove the barrier.

Thanks Permagrin, I thought I'd have a bit of fun and do something a bit different!

Lovely work Lore, well done!
