critique - new to people/portrait photography...

Hey, short time reader, first time poster.

In the past month or so, I've done three 'photoshoots' with a couple friends of mine. They people I've showed so far have all liked the last set of pics the best and say I'm getting better, but I'd like to get some strangers/photographer​s to give me their opinions.

I don't have any lightning equipment yet, so I've been shooting outdoors only, and learning how to deal with that briiiight sun, heh.

I shoot with a canon 20d with a 50mm1.4 lens.

Hey Kevin,

some of the shots are good.
A few are either over exposed (sunlight too harsh) or a little under-exposed.
Try to shoot earlier in the day or late in the afternoon, midday sun is just too bright. Or find a slightly shaded area to shoot.
Also look out for shadows on the subject which can be distracting, you could re-position the model to help minimise this.
Always check the histogram on the camera after each shot, this which will give you a guide to how light or dark the image will be when you upload onto your computer. You can also make adjustments to the levels in photoshop, but its preferable to get it right while shooting.
Apart from that, some nice composition and great models.
