I picked up one at Best Buy a few hours ago $799 -12% coupon.
The first thing I noticed about this lens is the size and weight is just right for a all day walk around lens.

I also noticed that it feels a lot more solid than the 28-135mm lens that came bundled with the 7D (sold lens on craiglist with the quickness), its almost as solid as the 24-105 just not as heavy.

It seems to focus very quick and quietly, I have only played with it here in my little cubical so I dont have any sample pics worthy of sharing but so far I think its going to be a keeper.

I have often missed the focal range of the Canon 17-85mm that I had a few years back and sold it for the Canon 17-55mm f/2.8 - long story short: I now have the 24-105mm that I figured on selling or trading for another 17-55 if this lens does not work out.

Even though this lens wont be as fast indoors as a fixed f/2.8 or fixed f/4, I have gotten more comfortable with bouncing my speedlite and I may just be OK and have a focal range that I will be happy with.
