This photo taken without a UV Haze filter.. I was told that better photo's are without the filter... I kinda knew that but have seen superb photo's with a filter... Anyways, not very good light as it was cold an overcast.. Will see how it goes when the light is better..

C&C welcome...

Tell me you haven't used a filter this whole time with the problems with the sharpness of your images?

I am assuming you have your 400 back? What is the postmortem on the lens struggles?

What they said:

Camera: We have e examined the product according to your request and it was found that the adjustment of the part (what part is that?) was incorrect, the focus did not operate properly. The dial ass'y was replaced. Adjusted exposure and focus with lens, cleaned C-Mos and checked all factory specs. Updated firmware... <--- Firmware was already up to date..

Lens:
We have examined the product according to your request and it was found that the product performed according to specifications. The focus did not operate properly... Checked all, adjusted Center/tilt/Focus with body cleaned all factory specs... BETTER PICTURES WHEN USED WITHOUT FILTER...

Good shot, Norman. Looks like things are cooking now. That's a pretty sharp image with lots of detail.

All I can say is try it without any type of filter on the lens. I have never used one personally but I have read they soften images....to some extent. Not sure how true that is though.

I'm going to have to agree with them on this one.

I have a drawer full of Hoya Pro1 UV filters as well as B+W. That's where they stay. All I need for protection of the front element is the lens hood. Any kind of contra light is going to affect your image with a filter in place.... in my humble opinion.

Gonna give it a try without... Took quite a few today in dismal light and got a few worth keeping... But I expected that... Waiting for better light now..

Norman, it looks like you've had your hands full of the repair facility.
Hope everything's worked out now.
BTW, beautiful Cardinal shot.

Very pretty shot. Now that your gear is all tuned up, let's see some more! I tossed my filters last year. ( well, they are in my camera pack unused ) I think my images look better without them! I agree with Harvey....lens hood protects the glass.
