With the second link I definitely think you could use some extra light in some of them, but it would not be direct flash fired straight at the subject. It would need to be flash bounced off the ceiling/walls within the room, so that there were no strong shadows and no harsh extremes of light levels between subject, room and the scene outside.

This was shot with my 50D at 1600 ISO, 1/50, f/2.8 on an overcast, rainy winter's day (30th Nov in the UK) without flash. It has been cropped and tweaked in Lightroom before resizing. This version has also been run through Neat Image but at this size it barely looks different from the version without NR....
Nice for iso1600, shame about the plug, if it was my shot i think that would have to go. Canon 5D MarkII, 40D, 350D, EOS100, G10. I agree, but I was second shooter and only contracted to supply unedited raw files so there was no need to give this the full workover. It's just an example of the 50D ISO performance for real world shooting, not a finished product.

Wedding venues are sometimes shocking... bins here and there, even had one the other day with cones everywhere and the wedding planner on site got all upset when i asked if it was possible to have them moved, but the worse thing at the minute in the uk is the smoking ashtrays they put outside... usually right by the enterances, you know right where the couple would look great showing off the venue!
