Hi guys. My first try at Urban photography. These two pictures were taken at dusk from atop a 14 story building. The images have been severly downsized to fit onto this forum, so if you can take a look at the full versions on my web site at:
http://mrstickman.deviantart.com (external link)

Thanks. Cheers everyone

Awesome! there is actually beauty in downtown Jozi! The perspective gives a great feeling of height above the subject. The moire and banding you mention on the website - could that be the building itself?

Thanks for the comments. You should have seen me dangling over the edge of the building to get that shot and give that sense of height (my mother would've killed me! )

The moire pattern is probably caused by the tile texture on that particular building. Similar effect you get if you photograph someone with a tiny check shirt I suppose. Is there no easy fix for it though?

Only thing I can think of is to change the size of the tiles relative to the cmos, which would entail zooming in or out slightly. I am guessing here, as I haven't been into digital in a serious way at all. I have a small point and shoot and an EOS 300 film, which fortunately doesn't suffer from the moire / flaring / digital specific problems!

Those I will encounter soon enough. Expect a call for help when I do get a digital!

The composition in the first one is nice. Not so keen on the second. Nice work.

Yup, I agree. In my gallery I've actually scrapped the 2nd one as it's not great. *sigh*
