Last week I was shooting in light rain with 1D mk II for about two hours and ended up having a fogged viewfinder that Canon service had to replace because they were not able to clean it. It costed about 90 EUR in total.
After some searches I found one case / year of this kind of problems from POTN. Is it this really this rare and I was just unlucky?
It was the first time for my second hand 1D mk II to be in the rain for a longer time so I wasn't very pleased when I noticed the issue. The body was bought from a well-known dealer and it was checked by Canon service before it was sold.
According to Canon service weather sealing hadn't leaked but it was condensation. I did go indoors briefly during the two hours but strangely the condensation appeared while I had already been out for some time.
If a second hand body is checked by Canon service it is worth checking what that really means, what kind of guarantee they give to their check and for how long time they give the guarantee. If the weather sealing would have been the issue, things would have been interesting in my case as Canon service might not have had any interest in it anymore.
