Macro DSLR Speed Challenge #45 - "Money"

I understand you spent all your money on the lastest 100mm L IS, but I'm sure you still have a coin or banknote laying around somewhere...
Or perhaps now its time to show that old coin you found while playing as a kid ;)
By now you should probably know what to do, but try to suprise us with a diferent prespective/composition if the classic coin on white surface isn't working.

Standard Rules apply:
Photo Submissions:

1. Camera - Any Canon DSLR camera
2. Lens - Any lens, or attachment that can give Macro photos (ex. extension tubes, bellows, macro filters, reverse mounted lens and of course a true macro lens.).
3. Time - any on-topic photo taken at any time is eligible, although photos that have won other competitions should NOT be entered.
4. Size - Please see the Image posting rules.
5. Post-Processing - do whatever you like and the host will decide if it works.
6. Posting -
* ONE MACRO PHOTO per photographer in each challenge.
* Photo Name/Title in the message.
* Camera model & lens used in the message.
* Post brief Exif data including ISO, shutter speed and aperture used in the message.
* Notes - anything you feel you need to explain.
7. Commenting - No commenting during challenge. When the posting is closed and a winner has been declared, comments can be made in this thread.
8. Questions - Use PM
9. Have FUN!

One challenge every week, on the following schedule:

* New Topic - After winner is declared.
* Posting Starts - Right after topic is announced.
* Posting Ends - 22:00 UTC / 17:00 EST Wednesday, October 21th, 2009. Winner will be announced shortly thereafter.
* Winner from this competition decides the theme of the next one (and judges it for a winner) after this competition is closed.

first I would like to congratulate everyone for participating :)

two pictures caught my attention, the "Holocaust survivor" by Daniel2000 and "V-cent piece" by Jason C.

The first one for the extra work of putting it into context plus using the text as surface, good DOF and vignetting.
The second one for the scars detail on his face, and the DOF is just about perfect.

well, since there can be only one, I pick "V-cent piece" as the winner of this week challenge.

The detail of the coin is a truly macro job (although the lens isn't).

Congrats Jason C, good work!

Congrats Jason - wonderful shot!! Now you have two challenges to judge :-) (I'd feel sorry for you but...well you deserve it!)

Nice go at it everybody

Daniel -- I loved that shot from the get go even though it took a bit to understand the title.

John -- Great idea - and i like your 2 cents worth :-)

I had a different idea in mind with the folds but I just never found the angle/dof I wanted.

Sorry for the delay, I just got home...looong day. Thank you Warl0rd for both the competition and the nod. So we got a buck 07 USD, and a pennie CAD. Daniel, monty and John, excellent captures, well done.

When I set up to shoot this challenge, I was going to focus my attention on pennies, silver coins and the Pocahantas [Sp] dollar. I had a handful of the newer nickels, which I do not like, and decided not to shoot them. I wasn't getting what I had envisioned with my original plan, so i grabed the nickels, shook 'em up and poured them onto my shooting surface and began shooting, occaisionally adjusting the light source . The above shot was #6 of the nickel shots, and the nickel pics yeilded the best results for me. Note to self; don't count anything out for a shoot.

I'll have the new MACRO speed challenge #46 up shortly.

Thanks again!!!

Jason C

Sorry I missed this round. I enjoyed seeing what folks shot for the theme this time around. When I had the money theme, I couldn't play, so I wanted to this time. Hopefully I'll get over this bug soon!

Good choice on the win, warl0rd, and congrats, Jason!
