Looked to source a filter today, they didn't have any large glass ones, but they did have a Grade 11 Huntsman filter plate (4.5" X 5.25")made of plastic...

Asked how much...and turns out it was free...box of rubber bands for $4 and i'm set.

Now, this IS the first one, so not great (shot into sun, won't do that again)...

Looking forward to doing some river and coast stuff with it though.

Here's a better one in B&W...

Shampoo sounds like an unfortunate name for a hair product.

Welding supplies shop in Palmerston North...

While explaining that i needed a square one (as opposed to the smaller, rectangular ones) I told her what i wanted it for and she said i could have it for nothing, if i came back and showed her some of the photos...score!

I bought a cheap ($6) UV filter and popped the glass out and hot glued the polycarbonate welder's glass to it. I don't need no stinkin' BigStopper!

Blimey, you can't really beat free can you :)

I quite like the first shot, it's certainly different and quite arty :)

I know, I just thought it was interesting that a welding glass supplier was aware of the other uses for their product.

I did a single shot with my new used Canon EF 28mm/2.8. It has a distance indicator, so I can focus manually.
60 seconds exposure on a calm late afternoon.
