Welding Glass (£1/$1 ND Filter) Exposures

My 650D can focus through the filter in bright sunlight but no less.

I thought I'd try a different approach to the color balance issue and this is the result. This was just a quick test so I apologize for the over-cooked appearance.

I took two shots with the camera on a tripod. The one on the left is just whatever the meter indicated (1/10, f/3.5, ISO100) and the one on the right is with the welding glass and 30 sec, f/3.5, ISO800.
In photoshop, I converted the welding glass shot to black and white, adjusted the levels and sharpened it. Then I put as a layer on top of the shot on the left with the blend mode as luminosity. That's it.
Next time I'll remember both the welding glass and a CPL and I might get a decent shot.

I think it looks all right.

Here is one with the 5D and a Hoya 28mm/f2.8 MF with M42 mount
20 seconds, 800 ASA, f8 or 11?
In DPP it was not sharp and couldn't get the WB right.
I sharpened the image in LR, smoothened the noise and used the eyedropper then adjusted the color temperature. Still has a green cast...

That 72 second one is very atmospheric. A bit of purple reflection going on, but we all get that.

Yes, unfortunately some stray light leaked into the lens. I've got foam tape between the glass and the lens to try to keep it in place and stop light getting in, but I think I'll have to think of a better solution.
