With the eminent release of the next pro series body from Canon, I couldn't help but wonder what they will call it.

Logic says a 1D MKIV. However some here have pointed out the number 4 is unlucky in some circles.

A 1D MKV has been kicked around.

With, what I believe, is the blending of the 1D & 1Ds this seems like the next generation for this camera. Couple it with a 50th anniversary and I can't help but wonder if it might just get a 2DMKI moniker.

So, take a vote and post your comments...Tuesday is just around the corner.

I'll go with 1D Mark IV as to avoid confusion, perhaps another name in Japan too.

For some reason I hope not 2D as I like having a 1-Series :D

Call it BoB.. That way when everyone takes a picture of themselves in the mirror and forgets to reverse the image in post processing, the camera name will still clearly be BoB.

Not sure why, but call me JJ.

IF they are merging, then 1DIII + 1DsIII = 1Dx perhaps? Then they can restart the mkI, II, III for the next 9 years without having to worry about unlucky #4.

The Canon 1G, as in GOLD, for their 50th (Golden) anniversary of SLR cameras.

I don't think there will be another consumer item called BOB at anytime. Remember Microsoft's BOB, that was a complete nightmare.

+1.

If the camera stays 1.3x, I don't see how Canon can increase the megapixels and achieve the rumored uber ISO.

So, they could do what Nikon did to the D3 - tweak the existing 10mp sensor and name the camera 1D3n.

It wouldn't be the 2D Mark I - you wouldn't start off the first of anything with a Mark or Volume or Edition or something number!
