Does anyone know if their is update firmware for XT?

EOS XT (black as I like my koffee)
Canon Zoom EF 35-80mm
Canon Zoom Telephoto EF 80-200 f/4.5-5.6

the automatic power off thing bugged me a little but if i go to the f1 race in less than a month i dont have time to send my camera in to canon if it freezes up or anything so i think im going to hold off on the firmware update till after then

The update to the firmware takes about 5 minutes if you go real slow making sure you follow all the instructions. It is not brain surgery. The loss of power to the camera during this upgrade and the possible damage that can occur sounds like you have to fly through it. In reality, with a fully charged battery, you have time to do it and still have a practically fully charged battery when you finish. Just follow the instructions provided on the update page.

This was my first firmware upgrade, so I was a little nervous about what could go wrong. Don't be. Try it, you'll like it.
