Need help! going to an NHL game

How do I ensure that the ice won't turn out gray? I am so confused on this topic. I really want to clear it up before my skii trip this winter =)

first of all, shoot raw, this way you can modify the yellowisch look your going to be having.
also shoot manual and make some test shots, so coming early to the game is very handy. Normally i shoot ice hockey AWB (Auto White Balance) but you can also try shooting custom why balance, a gray card will be perfect although i don't think you can trow in a gray cart on the rink haha

The reason that the ice turns gray is because your camera's meter is designed to make everything gray when to determine exposure. Shoot in manual and set up your camera so that it will "overexpose" the ice by a couple of stops. Check your LCD and look for the blinkies to see if you blew out any of the ice. If you're getting blinkies, lower your exposure and check your LCD until your only getting a few or no blinkies.


Beyond that, shoot RAW as suggested above and be prepared to adjust your WB afterwards.
