Hi All,

Just curios, how long you keep your lens that you love so much about it ? for example, you have an 2008 (UW) L lens, and you love about it. Would you keep it forever ? or you will sell it, let say..3 years later, and buy the same L lens again at that time.

Sorry if my english is bad.Thank you.

Hmm.. The only time I have sold lenses is when they are no longer useful to me. Sometimes it because I've picked up another that performs better and sometimes it's just not one I ever use and the capital can be used better elsewhere. I don't sell lenses I use and work well just to replace it with another copy.

I sell lenses for 1 of 2 reasons: I want to upgrade or I don't have a need. Upgraded my EF-S 60/2.8 to the tamron 180 because I needed more distance and a FF compatible lens. My 85L, however, will not be going anywhere for some time. It's just about right to me.

I'll keep my 17-55mm until the day that I abandon the 1.6x crop camera.

For the most part I agree, but the 100-400 is a wonderful lens today. But, if they ever update it and put in a modern IS, I am so selling my current lens and updating. :)

I have a feeling my Sigma 50, my 24L TSEII, and my 85L are going to be with me till the end. They just don't show any weaknesses that will be topped (I can't imagine anything besting them: there will never be IS in the 85L, the 24LTSEII is optically perfect, and the S50 is a flawless lens), and even with a better body (100MP+ here we come!) I can't see ever giving them up. They are most definitely "love" lenses.

Man, how are you liking that TS-E? I want that lens really bad. I've been watching for one to come up here used, but I don't think it's going to happen. No one seems to want to sell the damn thing.

That is the beauty of buying good glass. It can be a one time expense. Keep it!!

As a high school student, I started in this SLR "business" about 2 years ago. My first lens was the 17-40 f/4L. At that time, I had enough money to go for the 17-55 f/2.8, but I went for the L with a reason. I know that I will keep the L for a long time, like how all these other people keeps their lenses from the early 60, 70s. I wanted to grow up, and tell my kids that this was Daddy's first lens. I also purchased the 70-200mm f/4 and the 400mm f5.6

I capture my school, family, and my childhood memory with the lenses. Memories last forever, and I believe that the lens which captures them will last as long as my memories. Someday, when I see these lenses, I will be able to remember the moments I spent with my dearest friends and family.

High school student on a budget...
No more camera..

In the last 3 years I switched my basic setup completely every year, but it's always been an update :D

Year 1: 18-55 + 75-300
Year 2: 17-40 + 70-200
Year 3: 35 + 85 + 135

Currently my most loved one is the 35 and it will be the last lens I will probably sell. But never say never.
