Tom - I hope you don't mind this discussion on your post...

My previous question was really meant to tease a little. I think the general public is completely comfortable reintroducing wolves into Yellowstone, protecting fuzzy owls and so on but when it comes to a magnificent animal that has teeth and claws there is little support for reintroduction. There are wonderful, completely wild places in the lower 48 that could sustain a grizzly population and, up to the late 1800's, did. http://www.bearinfo.org/gbusa.htm (external link) The Yellowstone group is busting at the seams, pushing east and south. Cody is also pushing west and the two are colliding. All the grizzlies need to thrive is more habitat.

There are no easy answers to many questions but when people care then good things can happen. Excellent photos such those posted by Tom remind us just how wonderful these animals are.

Great shots Tom! Patience really paid off. The first one should end up on your wall!

Great Shots indeed. They are truly amazing to watch and photography, I got about 2000 shots this summer in two days, of about forty different grizzles in Katmai National Park, up in Alaska. To watch them interact , feed and move is spectacular. I am already trying to come up with money for a full frame camera, prime and a trip back (maybe ten years) Wish mine had the snow. Maybe I can make it to Yellowstone before that.

Great shots indeed! Glad none of the people scared it off before you got your shots in.

Great shots. And good dialogue also. Remember what the Greek Gods teach us - Everything in Moderation.

I really like that first shot. And the square crop works very well.
