If I were going into threads about the 5D and talking trash about AF speed, then you'd have a point. Until then your comment would be much better directed towards others.

No I directed it toward you for a reason. You posted what can be looked on as a snarky response directly to an honest question.

krb wrote in post #8903640 (external link)
In that case you were guilty of nothing more than asking in the wrong thread. Your post sounded like yet another ignorant "it's a 1.6x crop sensor instead of full frame so it must suck" post, and if I misinterpreted your post then I apologize.

Ah...so you were being a wise guy, got it. Big of you to apologize :)

It did? I certainly didn't read it that way...

x2 this is why I said something.

Honestly we all love photography, we can all check our egos at the door. Like I said, be happy with your purchase, no need to tell someone that it has features that their camera could only dream of..

Ken, I think you need to take a severe chill pill. I asked because I'm looking to UPGRADE to either one of these cameras and was curious whether or not Canon's new 7D had finally surpassed Canon's classic full-frame 5D in the high-ISO department. All the newest bells and whistles vs. an older full-frame model. That was basically where my question was going. But it looks like from Tim and Nick's response, I got the answer I was looking for, and that is, the 7D looks very favourable against the 5D classic, even in the high-ISO department.

Yes, you severely misinterpreted my post and although I accept your apology, you should not be so cynical and jump on others when they ask a question like this. There are a ton of reasons for that question and I'm surprised you had even interpreted it in the way you did.

If it was a serious question then it didn't need the smiley on the end. Simply saying, "I'm thinking of upgrading, has high ISO performance caught up to the 5D?" would have been clear, concise and virtually impossible to misunderstand.

Right, so you're making a big fuss out of a ":)" smiley? You've got to be kidding me.

Infact, I have no idea why you're still arguing about this. I asked a honest question, you're the only person who appears to have grossly misinterpreted. I sincerely doubt I'm the problem here.

Let's keep this thread on track for things we find we don't like about the 7D, and not have it digress off into supposition and comparison. There are more than enough other comparison threads that could have these questions addressed.

Like this 5Dc vs 7D thread....

Iv'e had my 7D for a week and the only thing I don't like about it is the learning curve of the video feature. I was hoping that I could use the 7D to replace any need for a video camera, but have found that this will not likely be the case. With that said, the video is awesome if used within its limits and my limits. My plan is to use it for video shorts like of my kids pulling tricks on their snowboards etc... I don't think it would be ideal for anything that requires quick panning.

I don't like the location of the Video start button. You'd thunk that Canon would have scratched their head bald and found a more ergonomically better place for it after the 5DMKII.
.... maybe a dual purpose shutter button after an "Unlock"?

I like the location but you're not the first person I've seen say they don't like it. What about it doesn't work for you?

I haven't used video mode much, but doesn't the shutter still work as a shutter button (for still pics) when you are in video mode?

I still keep hitting the * button instead of the AF on because the AF on is a bit far over.

Usually takes me a few seconds wondering why the camera is not AF'ing then I get the doh! moment.

I'll get used to, early days, early days...

You can program both of them to be AF, if you like.
