Two minor issues:

1) maybe just I don't know how. The AF area mode selection cannot be changed without going into the "Q" menu and using LCD screen. With 30D/40D/5D, I can use the AF area selection button to enable all AF point, and use the joystick to pick single AF point, so all AF <=> single with a touch of button.

I've got it set so you can press the top right button (looking at the back of the body) and then cycle through the various AF-point styles using the M-Fn button, and the joystick where applicable .... I think this is the default setting?

David :)

You can switch the focus selections using the M-fn button, it's in the manual :D

I've read quite a bit of this thread, trying to pick out things that I potentially won't like, and honestly can't find much that people have mentioned legitimately.

I should be picking up mine in a couple of days. :)

I haven't printed any images yet. Only viewed them on my Laptop screen. No, I am not really complaining. It is just an observation that the 7D LCD is much better than the 40D.

In the past I knew if an image on my 40D LCD looked good, then it would look even better on my computer monitor.

I haven't shot much with the 7D but I did notice that while shooting, many of the images that looked great on the LCD, didn't look all that great on the laptop screen.

Yes, I know that the 40D is softer (resolution-wise) than the newer models, but I was curious as to how the 7D LCD image "translate" to the final outcome, be it a print or display...

I still use a CRT (a 22" compaq) whose display is very close to my prints (closer than my laptop LCD display) because, I believe, prints are inherently softer than monitor displays in general, and that LCD displays seem to be sharper than those of CRTs ...

...all of which is to say that my "soft" 40D LCD display (set at level 7 sharpness) is VERY close to my CRT display/print output....which is what matters most to me...

Just got mine in and I dont know if I'm happy with it yet. I'm coming from a 1D3. First thing I notice is they made this thing TINY! I feel like I'm holding a tiny little rebel xt or something. Feels like a woman's camera. Next thing I'm noticing is IQ is not that great. the ISO even at 1600 is horrible. I need to test it out more though in real world conditions. So far I'm not super super excited.

One thing you'll probably find is that you need to control your exposure very carefully to get the best image quality out of the 7D - you definitely want to "expose to the right" with this camera.

Some Canon stuff and a little bit of Yongnuo.

Add a battery grip and you'll feel more at home.

At least you didn't say it was a "little person's camera." ;)
You must have never really held a Rebel, if you think a 7D feels small.

Some samples would help. Controlled tests and reviews have not agreed with your assessment of the IQ, so knowing more about your unsatisfactory images would be useful.

It's running ~20 degF max here - my Rebel was plastic, the 7D being more metal and heavier, is cold to hold.
what's the old saying? "cold camera, warm photos" ?

The thing i hate about the 7d is that it will focus and shoots at 8 fps. I can't stand that!! What was Canon thinking?
