Since this is now closed, I hope we all follow up with some Questions and Answers on how some of these photos were captured (regardless of the winner). There are several images in this thread that really fascinate me, because I'm not even sure what sure what the base subject was/is - or how they were created.

I'll save those questions until Jason chimes in with the results.

I love abstract photography, and this was a killer round to be sure. This has been my favorite DSLR Speed Challenge to date.

Good luck everyone!

Yes, we are closed now. Give me a little time to write up a little critique for everyone, and I'll announce the winner.

Thanks for the turnout!

Thank you all for the great turnout, I loved 'em all! I'm going to go right into individual critique then announce the winner at the end.

It is not neccassary, but if you can elaborate on what you shot, that would be just great.

John_B--John-- "Swirling Goodness" I love it! It's either a toasted CD, or perhaps candy...Looks like my migraine.

airfrogusmc--Allen--"untitled" Love it! Love the b&w treatment. Nice angle and a cool subject. Is this a building in Chicago? Looks like the same architecht as Disney Hall out here in L.A.

dilorenzo1954--Ed--"Faded Glory" Love it! I remember seeing the rest of this Ford in another one of your shots. Is this HDR?

thatkatmat "untitled" Love it! Excellent use of OOF and blown highlights excentuates the lone subject, and even got the rule of thirds down. Dreamy, airy, way cool.

macroshot "Federal Abstract" Love it! Love the contrast, the lines and the billowy blue reflected sky. Excellent composition.

ssracer--Sean--"Liquid Eye" Love it. Photoshoped mirrored water drop with funky colors looks like something out monster movie. If "The Blob" had an eye, this would be it!

Mevunky "Polkadots" I like it...looks like a gang of clowns visited your town. Did an "artist" Polkadot this building? I think I would have liked this image even more had you shown moe of the building, and perhaps at a bizzare angle...but tha't me.

Flo--Gail--""Flower Eye" Love it, when I could see it when I viewed it on my wife's overly bright monitor. Inventive and bizzare...cool! What did you shoot through?

MSJGD--Jean-Guy--"Untitled" I like it, that is one nice chunk of natural ice. Great colors and wonderful contrast. I would have liked it more if you could have gotten closer. So next time, put on a wetsuit and get into ultra freezing water...J/K ;)

huyness "Untitled" Love it. Is this a building with missing reflective window coverings? Great angle and composition, with cool colors and the ever popular in my book "three" of something.

S7000 "Untitled" I like it. Nifty angle that gets heavy and claustrophobic to the right. Sharp, stark and very "Logan's Run"-ish.

MageProductions.com "Biker George" I like it. It does not quite register on my abstract meter, it is however nicely surealistic. The flash reflection in the car license plates are a bit distracting to the overall surreal esthetic. Nice effort!

Kendoway--Chris--"Little Boxes" Love it. Hey, where's Godzilla...;) Grainy, oddly saturerated with colors only seen on Jupiter. In other words it's bizzare, and I like it. Where you departing or on approach?

Tonylong--Tony--"Fall Colors" Love it. Blurry, wavy and dreamy. Excellent flow of the subject from left to right, resembles a windblown bonefire. Very good composition.

paintmblak "Untitled" Love it. I see one very disturbed soul caught in what appears to be dried lava (what is it?), and what I look like when I get a migraine. Excellent compostion and capturing what I think you where trying to capture--the tortured soul.

Am I anywhere being done yet....

Cuypers1807--Joby--"Kaleidoscope Composer" Love it. You photogs will take pictures of anything, and you do a great job at it. Love the vibrant colors, and though I'm not a vignetter fan, it works great here. Very nice composition and use of the Lensbaby.

fryefoto--Candy--"Backlit Bubbles" Like it, bordering on love. I tried to let the light reflections on the bubbles overpower my eyes and give me a different view, but I kept getting distracted by the empty spaces between the upper bubbles and the lighting source. It's a cool concept and still a good picture, something to work from.

Daniel2000--Daniel--"Radioactive" Like it bordering on love. The Radioactive CD looks absolutely fabulous, but I'm distracted by your bare hand. Perhaps a floppy yellow rubber glove would have uped the anty, truly radioavtive. Still, kudos for that rockn' CD.

Monty28428 "Untitled" Love it. Swirly, flowing liquid with tie-dyed colors. I saw something like this in the stargate sequence of "2001..." I won't even begin to list the things I am seeing in your composition...well done.

Thank you all once again for participating in this Abstract challenge, you've all once again submitted quality images.

Abstract, and all things artistic, can mean different things to different people...purely subjective. My minor critique is not meant to be negative, but as constructive. I try to judge with "my eye", what works for me...once again, subjective.

Runner up (tie) goes to:

paintmblak

Great job in reproducing what I think you wanted to reproduce, the tortured soul, in that swirly quagmire.

Runner up (tie) goes to:

Macroshot

Just an all around awesome capture, the lines, angle and contrast are fabulous.

And my selection for the winner is:

thatkatmat

I just dig this composition and it's simplicty, I just kept going back to view this image. Very well done!

Now, it's your turn to host Canon DSLR Speed Challenge #120!

Thank you all for the great captures.
