WTG Matt and paintmblak. Thanks Jason for the HM as well.

That image is a heavy crop of the old Minneapolis Federal Reserve Building on the north end of downtown (Nicollet & Washington Avenues.)

It's one of those buildings that you hope never gets torn down because it's just a cool and unusual bit of architecture and it's one of my personal favorites. Here's the before & after:

Congrats thatkatmat. Great shots everyone but Monty I really like yours; I got cotton mouth and the sudden urge to listen Hendrix's Electric Lady Land.

I created Swirling Goodness (external link) with the camera mounted on the tripod and a B+W 1.8 ND, with fall trees as the subject. I started the exposure while moving the camera and paused movement for approx .5 seconds. This gave the motion blur but kept some of the tree shape. Then with software auto contrast, the colors were made even more abstract looking. ;)

Congrats thatkatmat...

Congrats thatkatmat! Everyone did a WOW job!!:D Jason, great job on picking a subject and a winner. Thanks for the C&C. The subject in my shot was the little silica beads that come in a box of shoes, etc. I opened two of the packets and poured them into a small glass then held a flaah light under the glass. I'd show a pic but I can't find the beads now:oops: I have several different compositions and lighting arrangments. I like the one I submitted because of the backlighting/darkness and the odd shaped bead in the left upper corner. Looking forward to reading other's explanations:D

Wow....Thanks! (Seems to me there were better shots than mine,,,,but)
So, I was set up with my tripod next to a river wating for a salmon to jump during the spawning run. Of the 100 shots I did catch a salmon in mid air (as shown below)
The shot that won in this thread was a crop from the OOF area of one of those 100 shots....PP'd and converted to B&W....So, it was actually a garbage shot....Sometimes what I think is gonna hit the can ends up being the shots folks like...Maybe I should re-think my stradegy

So....What to do now....Can someone explain? Do I decide subject matter? Is there instructions on how I need to proceed?
Again thanks and excellent work everyone.

There were some great shots here, and I second pretty much everything that's been said about the entries. I've been fighting a bug this last week and haven't picked up the camera. :-(
Monty, loved the bubbles(?)
I'm guessing paintmblak has a gnarly shot of tree bark, but I can't wait to hear more about it as well.
Daniel, thanks for the explanation about the CD shot. I have to try that sometime (probably without the rubber gloves too)
Cuypers1807, that shot was a cool idea for this challenge. Very creative!

Kudos again to all the entrants. I loved seeing what everyone came up with for this challenge. Great theme, Jason!

Matt -- pick a subject and create a new thread, copy the rules from this challenge and give the contest a week to run.

Yep -- soap film Lisa :-)

Congratulations thatkatmat! Thank you Jason for the runner up share with macroshot, I really liked his shot. The critque was quite accurate as to what I was trying to portray in the shot too. :)
My untitled pic (forgot about naming it) was indeed a crop of a piece of wood. Stump actually & I believe it is cedar...? Anyway it is in our rock garden in our front yard. The picture below shows the area where I shot the picture up close. I then rotated it, trimmed it some & turned it b&w, then saturated the black. That's about it! :)

Great shot Paint and great vision to see it. I liked it better without knowing. I don't want to know what Siskinds images were either. I like the mystery.
